Snipit in a few minutes

Everything you need, in 11 short parts. Uses the same button names as the app.

1Get started

Snipit has four tabs at the bottom: Home (what's due), Trackers (all your lists), Insights (charts) and Settings.

  1. Open the Trackers tab and tap Start a new tracker.
  2. Pick a template, like Credit card, Loan, Bills or Daily expenses. Each has Basic, Standard and Advanced levels; Standard suits most people.
  3. Give it a name, answer the one or two questions (like the due day), and tap Create tracker.

Just looking? Try the examples first: they fill Snipit with sample trackers you can clear later.

2Add rows and mark them paid

  • Add a row: open a tracker and tap +, or tap + Add on Home and pick the tracker.
  • Mark paid: tap ✓ Mark paid on a row, or the tick. Snipit remembers the day you paid (Paid on).
  • Edit or delete: tap a row to open it. To delete several, use Select, tick the rows, then Delete. There's always an Undo.
  • List or Table: switch at the top of a tracker. In Table, drag the corner of a cell down to copy it to the rows below.

3Read your Home

  • Next up: the next payment, with how much and when.
  • Coming up: everything else due soon and next month.
  • At a glance: one tile per tracker or board: what's still to go and how much is paid. A savings tracker shows its total with a line per account.
  • Done lately: what you marked paid recently.

4Change a tracker (Edit setup)

Open a tracker and tap Edit setup. There you can:

  • Rename it, set a Due day, or put it in a Group.
  • Add, rename or reorder columns (a date, an amount, a note, Paid…).
  • Turn a text column into a list to pick from (for example Paid with: Cash, Card, E-wallet).
  • Add cards: totals at the top of the tracker, like Balance = Amount − Paid. A card can also use another tracker's card.

5Groups, boards and folders

  • Group: trackers with the same group share a board that adds them up. Example: put Visa card and Mastercard in the group Cards.
  • Board: on the Trackers tab, tap the group's board. Edit board chooses its totals. + Breakdown adds a column up for each value of a list (how much was paid by Cash, by Card…).
  • Folder: tap New folder on the Trackers tab to add several boards together, like Monthly bills = Home + Car + School.
  • Arrange sets the order of your trackers and groups.

6Insights

The Insights tab shows charts from your trackers: this month so far, the months ahead, when loans finish, where your money went, how you pay (on time or late) and what's left over. Tap Show as list on any chart to read the numbers.

7Archive, limits and widgets

  • Archive: a loan is paid off? Open the tracker and tap Archive (Snipit also offers it when everything is paid). It leaves Home, Trackers and Insights, every row stays, and it opens read-only. Find it at the bottom of the Trackers tab, and tap Restore to bring it back.
  • Monthly limit: in Edit setup, tap Set a monthly limit, pick the amount column and type the limit, for the Whole tracker or for Each value of a list (like each category). The tracker, Home, Trackers and Insights show what's left; it turns amber when you're close and starts fresh on the 1st.
  • Widgets: press and hold an empty spot on your home screen, tap Widgets, then Snipit: next payment, this month, or the next three. Amounts stay hidden unless you turn on Settings → Show amounts on the widget; with App lock on, the widget only says Snipit is locked.

8Payment reminders

  1. Go to Settings → Reminders and turn on Payment reminders. Allow notifications when Android asks. Turn on Monthly limits too for one notice when a limit reaches 90%.
  2. Pick when: on the day, 1 day, 3 days or 1 week before, and the time.
  3. Rows with a full date (or a Due day) remind on those days; month-only rows remind on the 1st of the month. Paid rows never remind.

Not getting them? Open Settings → Check reminders and tap Send a test. Some phones also need Snipit's Battery set to Unrestricted. You can close Snipit; reminders still come.

9Back up your records

Snipit keeps everything on your phone only. If you lose your phone or uninstall Snipit without a backup, your records are gone.

  1. Settings → Backup and restore → make a backup with a password, and save the file somewhere safe (Google Drive, email to yourself, a computer).
  2. Or turn on Back up by itself: pick a folder once, and Snipit saves a backup every 7 days when you open it.
  3. New phone: install Snipit, go to Backup and restore → Open a backup, pick the file and type the password.

Keep your backup password somewhere safe. Nobody can recover it, not even us.

10Make it yours

  • Look: System, Light or Dark, and a colour: Snipit green, Blue or Pink.
  • Money: your currency sign.
  • Privacy: App lock asks for your fingerprint, face or PIN when Snipit opens.
  • Start from zero clears everything (after a typed code), if you want a fresh start.

11Update Snipit

Snipit never goes online, so it can't update itself. Now and then, open the Download page, install the new version over the old one, and your records stay. The What's new card on Home tells you when your Snipit is getting old.
